Gaming in Indiana is booming. Since legislation was passed to allow casino gaming in 1993, the state has grown to accommodate 11 casinos, five of which are situated on the banks of the Ohio River. The first casino to make waves on the river was Casino Aztar in Evansville, unveiling a boat built as a replica of the Robert E. Lee racing side?wheel steamboat.
Since its opening in 1995, the property has undergone massive renovations catering to the overall experience of today’s gamer. The District, a $40-million expansion funded by the casino in 2006, is an entertainment area surrounding Riverfront Park and buzzing with an Irish pub and billiards club. The area offers an alternative to the casino and gives visitors a chance to experience some of the culture of Evansville.
Other additions include Le Merigot Hotel, Blush Ultralounge and Tapas Bar. Located directly across from Jillian’s Billiards Club and RiRa Irish Pub and Restaurant, Le Merigot and Blush complete the first phase of Casino Aztar’s Downtown Waterfront Entertainment District Project.
“We are absolutely thrilled about opening Le Merigot and Blush,” said Jim Brown, president and general manager of Casino Aztar. “These two venues are spectacular and the first of their kind in Southwestern Indiana. Both will offer local and regional visitors a fresh, new entertainment experience.”
Le Merigot, loosely translated, signifies “by the water,” and was designed by renowned Los Angeles-based interior designer Laurence Lee. This 96-room boutique hotel promises the finest hotel experience in the region where every detail has been designed to create a sophisticated, intimate and pampered getaway. Le Merigot also offers five grand suites, each offering an intoxicating view of Evansville’s riverfront and Entertainment District. The suites at Le Merigot offer spacious living/dining room areas, master bedrooms and oversized bathrooms, complete with effervescent soaking tubs.
Blush, Evansville’s first ultralounge, has been designed to convey an exotic, cosmopolitan cool in the heart of the Midwest. Located on the first floor of Le Merigot, Blush brings the sleekness and fantasy of metropolitan night clubs to the Evansville riverfront. Blush’s extensive tasting menu offers culinary creations with a Pacific Rim flair along with a wide selection of sushi. The lounge has an allure all its own – intimate, yet as the night goes on, sizzling. Perfect for both singles and couples, for dining and mixing, or for dancing and meeting. Sensual stimulation can be expected on every level – stunning ambience created with modern art and fluid lighting, the resonance of carefully selected music beneath intimate conversations along with a two-story bar offering enticing creations meant to satisfy all tastes.
When it comes time to eat, you won’t be left out in the cold. The property and District area combine to offer eight options from fine dining at Cavanaugh’s to authentic Southern-style BBQ at Corky’s. There is also a Starbucks located nearby. All of this in addition to the casino!
On the vessel, you will find 1,400 slot machines, 40 table games and a 12-table poker room. The casino hotel features 251 rooms and suites ranging from $109-$335 per night and Le Merigot Hotel has 96 rooms ranging from $159-$599 per night. While the options are endless, be sure to check for any packages or multi?night specials as you might be surprised.
So, if you haven’t visited Casino Aztar Evansville recently, do yourself a favor and make it a point to go. With the excitement of the casino and energy of the District, you can’t go wrong.
